Recognized by sight: Large size, brittle, very hard stem, no latex, white spores, marbled-mottled dirty brown-grey-tan cap, reddening but not blackening, red gills at age
Used references: Ron Pastorinos suggestion to call this R. eccentrica is consistent with MykoWeb and Thiers, and I think it’s a good idea. I was using R. subnigricans because that’s the name we used to describe it on MushroomTalk momentarily.
