Notes: Found in the mossy areas at the edge of grassy areas, roads and paths, in and around the main site of CERN, outside Meyrin, Switzerland. Turns out to be very common around here.
The first micro-shot is of a gill edge at 400x in Meltzer’s. The cheilocystidia here are some capitate, some not, they are fusiod-ventricose with long thin necks. Also no pleurocystidia were observed. 4-spored basidia with non-dextrinoid spores were observed.
The second micro-shot is of the stipe apex at 400x in KOH. Here there are plenty of caulocystidia, with long thin necks and capitate. Also no clamp connections were observed.
The third micro-shot is of the spores from the stipe apex at 1000x in KOH. The spores are light tan, ellipsoid, and lightly warted, no plage, no germ pore. Apr. 8-9 um long.
The forth micro-shot is of some cap surface tissue in radial section at 400x in Meltzer’s. Here the cap surface is a cutis with no gelatin. It is hard to see here, but there are a few pileocystidia, which are thin, and in this case, non-capitate.
This pretty much covers the features of G. graminea. Or, as half of my sources call it Galerina laevis, the names are equivalent. But half claim one is correct, and half the other… if anyone knows more about reasons to make one more valid than the other, I’m willing to listen?
