I went back to the locations I have found these, two of them had scrub oaks nearby and the third had no oaks. Tricholoma griseoviolaceum looks just like them, so thanks for the call.

Sounds viscid

With the stuff stuck to the cap, that sounds fairly viscid. With the grey with purple tones cap, this really looks like T. griseoviolaceum. But I’ve seen that usually with live oak, I don’t know if I’ve heard of it with chinquapin.

I do not recall the cap being viscid. I have the mushroom and there is dried debris adhering to the cap. The cap has radial fibrils. It has been found several times with Chinquapin & Manzanita
