Observation 30567: Hydnum repandum (L. Fr.)
When: 2009-12-19
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These small pinkish white mushrooms were easy to spot popping up above the pine needles on an East facing slope. The little spines were easy to differentiate from pores or gills. They were scattered singly and in small groups dispersed throughout a mile radius or so. I have a feeling there are a ton of these little guys, but this is my first time collecting them. They are delicious, reminiscent of chanterelles. Happy Hunting!

I had a nice dinner, and enough to bring some to my father.

This is the underbelly of the hedgehog with the spines going partway down the stalk.
