crocea-like taxa in the U.S.

I know of two taxa in the U.S. that resemble A. crocea of Europe. I think the photo posted by Walt is probably one or the other of them. The two provisional names I have in mind are A. americrocea and A. pseudocrocea. It is very probable that their ranges could overlap in Ohio (sorry, Walt). Eventually, the two names, photographs, and data will appear on the new Amanita Studies site that I hope will be release for public view in the coming Spring. (While much of the change has been automated, detailed review of every page is necessary as a quality check.)

Color photographs of the two species under their alphanumeric code names appeared in the Bolletino del Gruppo Micologico G. Bresadola (Trento) in the late 1990s. The last time I checked, I didn’t find the article in question on line.
