When: 1993-09-18

Collection location: Waterloo Recreation Area, Michigan, USA [Click for map]

Who: walt sturgeon (Mycowalt)

No specimen available

These were in a lawn and appeared to be Marasmius oreades. But no gills…
Maybe an abortion or a parasite?

I don’t know why I did not keep the collection. It was fruiting at a foray in the lawn right outside the display building. It really looked and felt like Marasmius oreades and I think that it may have been a sequestrate form. But we will never know unless it shows up again. I have never seen it anywhere else. I think the foray building was demolished. Don’t know if there is still a lawn there.

Weird! There is a resemblance to M. oreades, but I doubt it could be that particular species. I don’t know of any sequestrate Marasmius, but maybe this could be one.
