Observation 32090: Clathrus columnatus Bosc
When: 2009-12-18
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I called this our alien space egg. I found this and followed it through to see what it was. It turned out that I had already observed one of these on the same day but found it fascinating to see it emerge into one. I included a cropped close up of the bug for fun.

It was a lot of fun to watch this and see what popped up. It had a very short life span and didn’t seem to grow as full as the first one that I found or the third I just found the other day – which is a very bright red in comparison and you can see pretty much see the whole the pod. Looks like a diaper to me. I’ll probably post those shots soon.

nice freeze-frame time lapse!
