Notes: Im not sure what this is. It was found on a beaver chewed birch stump. Near an active beaver site. It is covered up by a type of moss which is common here in WV. The polypore forms irregular shelves. It was smelled before sighted, Smell very fragrant almond like to me, but others I let smell say a combination of anise and almond. Smells really good like you want to eat it. taste mushroomy Texture tough, spongy but becoming softer by the pore surface. blackens in KOH.
