Observation 32850: Hypomyces cervinigenus Rogerson & Simms
When: 2010-01-27
Who: payse
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This mushroom was found in the “duff” of a small group of redwood trees. The common soil in this area is almost all clay.

This mushroom has a free margin and the stem connects in lobes up through the wavy, lobed, cap. The white seen in the photo are spores. The color of the cap is dark brown to black. The length of the stem is approximately 12 cm. The smell is not acrid, but also not mild.

The stem feels like a firm rubber, and has a waxy appearance.

Any ideas? Thanks!
