it is quite small and doesn’t even look like a bolete in situ…almost like just another candy cap wannabe from the top.
gotta pick it up for that aha! moment.

Both times I found this it did not look like anything new as I walked by. It wasn’t till I looked closer, picked it, and saw it was a Bolete.

This species is not one I have ever heard of from the Santa Cruz area, although I doubt it would have been correctly determined had it been found.
