Recognized by sight: attractive brown-capped mushroom in groupings throughout the pine duff, with a dark stem that has a pale apex.
Based on chemical features: they smell really really bad (like rotten garlic or an old brussels sprouts field) and you don’t have to hold them up to your nose to be able to smell them.
I love mushrooming.
