Notes: The two largest mushrooms from this patch had very pale lamelle. Over the course of 2 or 3 days the gills became progressively darker, and spore deposit became visible on the stipe, however the gill colour never developed as darkly as the rest of the mushrooms.

Nope, not sterile… The spores developed, as noted above. I am not sure why the spores took so long to develop or why the gills never turned that dark ashy grey/brown that the rest did.
