Observation 3578: Boletus fraternus group

When: 2007-06-05

Collection location: Big Thicket, Polk Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

No specimen available

These small(caps less than 3.1 cm across) colorful boletes were growing on a mossy sandy bank, pores and flesh bluing fairly quickly. Although they fit the description in North American Boletes reasonably well, other sources indicated a variety of characteristics that often didn’t agree.
