Clathrus columnatus

I agree with Nathan, this looks like Clathrus columnatus. In checking the world monograph on the Clathraceae by D. M. Dring, Clathrus columnatus is recorded form three locations in Kenya; Mt Elgon, Krambu and from Nairobi. The two collections from Nairobi were made thirty years apart.

Looks more like a Clathrus than a Lysurus to me
