This looks like a puffball but broke open with the slightest touch. Maybe it’s a slime mold.
Growing in the rotten heartwood of a severed limb on an apple tree.
Spore powder light gray, roundish, average 5.5 um.
Update 10/13/07 – spores are amyloid, double walled and spiny.

Hi Darvin. It looks like a slime mold to me. Typical slime mold spores too. Not sure what genus to put it in.
