This slime mold was first photographed on October 13, 2001. On that date, it was a thick, white mass with a surface texture resembling cauliflower. It covered an area roughly 24 inches by 36 inches on the south-facing side of a large Sugar Maple snag. Adjacent masses of the slime mold were oozing upwards along some dead branches.
