Observation 4135: Chlorophyllum molybdites (G. Mey.) Massee
When: 2007-09-18
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: Collected due to poisoning report of John Sariego. Tonight I received a call from the concerned mother of John Sariego. She was at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena with her young son (1 year old?) who had just taken a bite out of a mysterious mushroom. I tentatively identified over the phone as C. molybdites based on the white color, brown scales and the ring. Her husband brought the mushroom two me to confirm the identification. As far as I can macroscopically it is C. molybdites. I submitted an email version of Mike Beug’s Toxic Exposure Report and gave the father a printed copy of the report which he promised to fill out and mail in. He let me keep two of the three specimens he had collected. I took photos of them and put them on the drier. My herbarium number for this collection is NJW-702.
