Observation 44289: Morchella rufobrunnea Guzmán & F. Tapia
When: 2010-04-13
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found a pair growing among saw grass with aspen and cherry trees in the near vicinity. There may have been more, but I wasn’t thrilled to get cut to shreds by the saw grass.

but I heard of some people who filled the back of their van with morels on a big excursion and then being too tired to clean out the van at the end of the trip, they went to sleep. they awoke the next morning to find the entire inside of the van stained brilliantly with spores.

The pitted side was down

On the slide. I probably didn’t explain well, I guess I didn’t need
to slice in half, I just did to check for bugs.

Still no spores. Perhaps a sterile specimen?

the spores

come from the outside of the mushroom I believe. on the outside, but from within’ those little pockets.
ive seen a morel print that looked honey-combed on the paper with darker spots near where the holes were.

the person who took it just put a morel on its side on paper and put a bowl over it. no cutting etc.

I hear good stories about wrapping aluminum foil around them to make a tube(so moisture can flow, don’t close the ends) since they spore from all sides.

No spore print?

I tried to spore print one of these, assuming that a half of a specimen layed on a glass slide under a cup would deposit spores in a 24 hour period. No spores. Am I incorrect about the spore drop from Morels?
