Observation 44492: Punctelia rudecta (Ach.) Krog

Notes: Location: 35°12’38.36"N, 85°54’0.40"W, el. 587 m, Beckwith’s Point Trail.

Substrate: Several rosettes were growing on the bole of a forest tree 8 cm DBH from 2 cm to 1.5 m above the ground. This species is occasionally seen in the Sewanee area, but it seems to be uncommon.

Habitat: Oak-Hickory-dominated eastern deciduous hardwood forest at the edge of the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau.

Chemistry:
medulla C+ red (disappearing quickly), K-, KC+ reddish orange (immediately, but disappearing quickly), Pd-
