Recognized by sight: With the habitat being Pinus radiata I would say it’s this species, I’m not sure what microscopic differences there are between this species and T. ornaticeps but they seem very similar!

Hi Clive, this was under Pinus radiata but the understory was native New Zealand plants, mainly tree ferns, I guess both species I mentioned could occur in this habitat!

This is an interesting oservation, what sort of habitat did it come from? was there any pine , Rimu, beech trees present in the area?

Thanks for the comments and information, there are some fine purple fibrils near the apex of the stipe, I’ll check for pleurocystidia tomorrow.

Tricholomopsis rutilans should have purple fibrils on the stipe.

Tricholomopsis ornaticeps – Spores 7-8.5 X 4-4.5 um, Pleurocystidia none.
Tricholomopsis rutilans – Spores 5-7 X 3.5-4 um, Pleurocystidia 36-52 X 6-9 um.
