Observation 44866: Rhodocybe reticulata (Cleland) E. Horak

When: 2010-03-28

Collection location: Kingfisher Bay, Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia [Click for map]

Who: Roy Halling (royh)

Specimen available

Based on observation of the image, Tim Baroni offered the identification. For that, I am very grateful. This single specimen did not have the concentric lines on the pileus. However, this would be only the 3rd collection known of the taxon; the others are Cleland’s type from South Australia and Genevieve Gates’ collection from Tasmania. These are cited in their paper referenced here.

Specimens in BRI & NY (REH9295).

The pileus surface is a grey brown and lacks the concentric lines. Removed from natural setting to a quieter location.
Basidiospores seen in Cotton Blue at 40x with Nomarski DIC optics. Upper left in profile view. Lower right in polar view.
