Observation 44880: Cookeina colensoi (Berk.) Seaver
When: 2010-03-22
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These small orange cup shaped fungi are a little similar to some species I have loaded previously, but, they had stems to about 4mm and the cups were hairless. The caps in this instance were about 5-6mm across.

Recognized by sight: Deeply cupshaped, stalked, growing on wood – but they should be more or less hairy on the outside, so it’s probably something else :-)

I read where more mature fungi loose the hair, but like to be sure and take the consensus view. I have learnt to trust your judgement. Chow, kk
