Surprisingly, I did well

in a spot in MD. I had thought the early heat would bring the ground temp up too fast. Many that I found there were in shady and/or E or NE sloping land. I did very well in a NJ spot which is typically a late producer. Also, one old orchard I hunt here in my county… a damp, cool, shady area… did better this year than it had in several years. But a lot of spots produced way fewer morels than usual. Not many blacks at all this year.

Fond this one yesterday

but it is slim pickens out there I was surprised to find this lone one under tulip tree. It is getting late ins the season. It was not a good season in WV. There where very few morels compared to last year.

Eddee, are you still finding these?

I had assumed this early morel season here in the eastern US was just about over.
