Notes: Uncommon, highly charismatic and always solitary. Reported from the Bolivian Amazon as well.

Collected for the Amazon Mycorenewal Project near the Shayari Ecolodge.

Dried specimen obtainable with permission from la Universidad Central del Ecuador Fungorium.

Beautiful fungus. The lead photo is really nice but I think a bit more crop would improve it, maybe 5%

of an unknown type. Singer’s first description of M. ruber says this under substrate:

On rotting dicotyledonous sticks, leaves and wood, and on dead
monocotyledonous leaves, in rain forest.

Any guess as to substrate or does this grow on most any organic matter on the forest floor?
