Yep, the first photo looks just like a smooth chanterelle until you zoom in to see the reticulations.

I silently scoffed at this ID at first…

but enlarging your photo does show the reticulated upper stipe typical of this species. Nice that you pursued the ID and showed the example of this untypical form.
