ah, a thing of beauty…

Careful assigning Rhizocarpon to all black-on-white sun-baked crusts! This one has the infinite good fortune of sporting lovely cyanobacterial colonies in those pinkish-orangish splats (cephalodia), making the generic determination easy at least — no question it is Placopsis. Southern hemisphere has some lovely ones; we only have one or two crappy ones up here.
