it seems fairly impossible to ID these things by photo…

…since the color of the staining is subject to the vagaries of photography. In hand ID is probably the only way, and we gotta assume that Dennis knew what he was looking for at the time…

Not sure on this one, I didn’t really get that many details here. I was just recording the id’s that Prof. Desjardin made on that trip. He put down the names, and I just recorded them.

Did it stain blue?

It’s not clear from the photo that this collection stained blue. However, it definitely looks like a Chalciporus based on the yellow in the stipe, the small size and the tight pores.
