Observation 47895: Usnea strigosa (Ach.) Eaton
When: 2010-04-25
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: I’m confused: I thought this group was obvious — U. strigosa common and usually with pinkish medulla; one other species was similar but rare and always white. However it seems there are at least a few more, and I have no idea how to distinguish them all any more. See Chris’s observation which James Lendemer identified as something I’d never even heard of.

In any case, this is the typical species at this location, being one of if not the most abundant lichen here.
