Wow, Stridval does have some gorgeous photos. You have some interesting species of Xanthoria over there. You’re right, it could easily be X. aureola. I’d never heard of the species.

Thanks for giving an hint about the other specimens in the 2nd photo. Relatively to the main subject of this observation, since everything is new for me, I didn’t feel weird that there were no aphotecia in the specimen. By the way, in the 2nd of my references I found photos from a big list of Xanthoria sp. lacking aphotecia:X. aureola, X. elegans, X. fulva, X. isidoidea, X. parietina, X. poeltii, X. resendei. Moreover, at least the first of this species also lacks soredia.

I would expect either soredia or apothecia in a specimen this large. That’s weird. I see a Caloplaca in the upper right and Physcia adscendens on the left (bottom photo).
