Somebody dropped a pail of these off at the mushroom buyer’s stand. The flesh of the cap is spicy fragrant.

Paxillus vernalis
Flesh: Discoloring reddish to brownish when exposed.
Odor: Not distinctive or somewhat fragrant.

Did anyone take a spore print? The odor you are describing and the color in the image does not suggest P. vernalis.
