Recognized by sight: Short gills truncate to rounded truncate; pileus margin striate; distinct bulb at the stem’s base; pantherinoid style volva as noted by Mike. I’m not sure whether that is the edge of a skirt-like annulus that is draped on the lower stipe or whether it is part of the inner limb of the volva. Spore measurements would be a good place to start in identifying it. Pantherinoid taxa should have very rare (or no) clamps at the bases of the basidia.

Your field photos are much more representative of this mushroom.
apparently the reddish color depicted by Mike is just from decay, or maybe the indoor lighting.

yup, looks like a pantherina with a double annulus!

could this just be a developmental anomaly, Rod?

Notice the peculiar double-ring thing going on (most visible on the unopened specimen and the middle fruitbody).

I have (at least) one more photo of these that I will post when I get back to the USA.

I wrote longer descriptions on the back of some of the voucher sheets, along with figures. I can’t remember if I gave this one the “full treatment”. That weekend was more about volume than depth.

interesting color for these…

not just brown, but reddish brown.

with three fruit bodies collected, where are the details on the other two? It would be nice to see more annulus features, rather than just the one with an ambiguous veil remnant.

Did Christian describe these? He is usually quite thorough in his collections…

I agree that it is within section Amanita, but it looks quite different from our usual pantherina to my eye…
