quite a few of the Species #17 that I realized there was a sac like volva. It does tend to cling to the stalk… and as I had said, is difficult to harvest with volva intact.

Maybe it is because the volva was small and smashed around the base of the stipe.

species #17. Cast iron color is my main clue here. Over the past 9 years I have collected a bunch of these (or something close). Friable volval sac is buried about an inch underground and is difficult to retrieve intact.
