Observation 48932: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

When: 2010-06-05

Collection location: Pinecrest, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

Specimen available

Notes:
Found under mixed conifers, and black oak.

Viscid cap, non-viscid stipe, lacking bulb. Brown cap, brown gills when young, off-white stipe. Cap surface purple in KOH, no other reactions in KOH (gills, stipe, context).

The micro-shot is of spores from a gill at 1000x in KOH. The spores are brown, ellipsoid and warted, roughly 11 x 7 um.

I’m pretty sure these are yet another undescribed species of Cortinarius, but since I collected it, I thought I would try to make a complete observation of it.
