Observation 4903: Boletus eastwoodiae (Murrill) Sacc. & Trotter

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Ah, the first time finding these for me. And I think I will lead the way in calling them B. eastwoodiae, since no one else seem to be doing that yet…

But in years of going up there and looking around, this is the first time I have seen these. But this is also the first time I’ve gone up almost each week through the month of Nov. They might just be early season ’shrooms, with a narrow season to find them.

They are smaller than I expected, but fairly attractive, with the pink stipes, and the orange-yellow-pink pores.

Finds like these keep me thinking there are still more ’shrooms out there to find up in the preserve. Even in the big species, and not just in the little brown jobs.
