and thought the spines were extremely light-colored for specimens this mature. I would have expected darker purple-brown spines Noah.

prove Hydnaceae. In Mushrooms Demystified, keys out to Bankera fuligineo-alba or Bankera carnosa (=B. violascens?). I don’t know either of these species, so will stick with Hydnaceae.
