Observation 49410: Non-fungal
When: 2010-07-31
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These pictures were sent to me in an email. The “fungus” is growing in a skylight in a school in Wisconsin. Obviously there are water leaks. And maybe weird morphological things are happening because of reduced oxygen? Any ideas????

[admin – Sat Aug 14 01:59:48 +0000 2010]: Changed location name from ‘Dane County, Wisconsin’ to ‘Dane Co., Wisconsin, USA

It looks like a faded Koosh ball smashed under the glass. Koosh balls were popular toys in the late 80’s.

i’d be 95% on the non-fungal side of the fence were it not for the apparent creeping growth up onto the ledge. that’s throwing me. still, doesn’t look like any fungus or slime mold I’ve ever seen.

There’s a pencil in there. Why not a shaggy, wet, wool hat?

…that I want it in my lab. You are right, though—- A few minutes of microscopy would solve a lot of problems.

hope you could do a microscopy
