Recognized by sight: The rounded conical cap in the button is typical. Also, note that unlike the ellipsoid-spored death caps, the top of the volva turns in toward the stipe even in a relatively young specimen instead of standing up parallel to the stem. Also, the bottom of the bulb is much more hemispheric than an inverted, rounded cone…as in at least some of the death caps with ellipsoid or elongate spores.
