Observation 50514: Rhodocollybia butyracea (Bull.) Lennox
When: 2010-08-12
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This one really confused me because it should have been pretty easy to key out. It has what I would call a hygrophanous waterlogged kind of waxy light brown wavy planar cap (3.5 – 5.5 cm), white gills, a white spore print (spore print #2), and the stalk is 4cm or so tall, 3/4 – 1cm wide and is hollow!

I tried keying both hygrophoracea and tricholomatacea and end up with dead end. Tricholoma imbricata was way off as was t. vaccinum and the melanoleuca’s I ended up on. I thought it would key out to inocybe but didn’t sem to get there…

Suggestions?

100817 Damon and Alan: thanks for your comments. I keyed it out this morning to collybia dryophila in MD which uses the deprecated collybia name and then found a perfect visual match on mykoweb for Gymnopus dryophilus. Also the online help says they prefer if I “edit observation” instead of adding another note so here’s me doing that. thanks again adam
