Found on the Z-ranch trail, 2 small russula’s with about 4cm caps and 2.5cm tall stal, no taste or bitterness, cap is purplish, gills yellow/white. Also in same area/hillside found one large russula with a 12.5cm wide cap, stalk 8.5cm high and 3.5cm thick, the cap was a dark purple, almost a grey/black, gills and flesh were white, gills sinuate to adnate (attached a little). Stalks of all 3 were chalky, easy to snap, no milk. Top of caps were gooey but not sticky. I took a spore print and believe it was white but don’t seem to have taken a photo and don’t have the mushrooms or prints here with me.
Here is how I keyed it out in MD:
p. 85 1 – 10 – 11 – 12 – 13 – 17 – 18 – 23 not distinctly acrid – 32 – 34 – 38 – 39 spore print and gills whitish – 40 = R. cyanoxantha p. 94. Seems to resemble other russula cyanoxantha photos I see on MO.
