Observation 51345: Craterellus fallax A.H. Sm.

When: 2010-08-25

Collection location: Strouds Run State Park, Athens, Ohio, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dan Molter (shroomydan)

No specimen available

I was actually standing right in the middle of this patch of black trumpets before I noticed them. It’s probably the biggest patch I’ve ever seen. I’d guess 200 to 300 fruit bodies in an area the size of a parking spot.

These are good edibles. The flavor reminds me of morels.
