Observation 5146: Trichaptum biforme (Fr.) Ryvarden
When: 2007-11-19
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: small crowded shelf on dead hardwood logs and standing snags
ST: lateral if at all, white, minutely fuzzy
CAP: widest I saw today is 75mm, fan to kidney to semicirc, smooth entire to gently scalloped edge, flat to depressed, dry, silky, white with subtle brown zones
FLESH: white, to ~1mm thick, tough but flexible even when dry
PORE: v quickly turning into irreg teeth, pale tan to reddish-tinged to violet-tinged right at the growing margin, ~3-4 pore per mm, v shallow (less than 1mm)
These are everywhere around here, but it’s not every day I find such beautiful fresh violet-tinted ones.
