Notes: This medium size mushroom was found growing on the ground in a very shaded wooded area. The cap was 3" across, was dark brown and soft-velvety. It was shaped like a sombrero. The underside had closely spaced white gills that did not extend down the stalk. The slender, rather rigid stalk was 6" long and was covered with tufts of whitish fibrillar material.
