Observation 52185: Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat.

Collection location: Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

This medium sized fungus is composed of two partially fused shelves. The top is convex with concentric ridges and color zones. The underside is white with dark depressed areas. Small pores are seen in many areas. A cross section shows two layers of long brown tubes and a thin white inferior zone. I think this is a shelf polypore with two years of tube growth. I also think the white zone that doesn’t quite cover the lower surface is a parasitic fungus but would appreciate other opinions.

I think it is just partial pore formation.
