it doesn’t matter really. There are so many different opinions about what to call these Hydnums. By some they are all varieties of repandum, and it certainly makes it easier to put a species name on them.
Most of the time, I can tell the scandinavian forms/species apart, but I’m not so sure about the american ones..
Not a chance to argue for one or another species here, then..
H. rufescens is depreciated in favor of H. repandum.
it’s closer to H. rufescens..
