Observation 5266: Multiclavula mucida (Pers.) R.H. Petersen
When: 2007-11-29
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: minute club fungus scattered on wet rotten algae-covered oak wood (not bark)
CAP: club-shaped, simple to fimbriate to outright multiply-forked (rare), 3-6mm tall, ~0.3-0.4mm wide, narrowed at base, white to yellowish to dk reddish brown at v tip, somewhat irreg and often minutely lumpy, shiny, glabrous
SPORE: withers way to quickly to get a print
Not a true lichen since it does not grow a specialized thallus in conjuction with the algae, but apparently the mutual relationship with the algae is thought to be obligate. How interesting!
