Observation 5272: Hygrocybe nigrescens (Quél.) Kühner

When: 2007-11-30

Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

Fruiting amongst Douglas fir, bay and madrone. Arora, mykoweb suggest that this would only be H. conica if found with redwood or Monterey cypress. The area where I found it was mostly oak so I’m going with H. nigrescens. No viscidity anywhere but not sure if that was due to dry weather.

But this one does lean a little more towards H. nigrescens than the other 3 you posted from that area. I think it’s more along the lines of undescribed as of yet Hygrocybe conica group.
