Observation 53460: Clathrus ruber P. Micheli ex Pers.

When: 2010-09-20

Collection location: Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Adam Singer (adam)

No specimen available

Notes:
Sorry I only have 2 photos of this red mass of fungal matter. They were in the dirt, as you can see in grass, and under a small conifer. It was so decayed that I was unable to collect it, it just fell apart. So the photos aren’t that great but I wondered if anyone had any clue as to what kind of mushroom this might have been when once whole?

thanks
