Notes: Sweet nutty smell. Found under a spruce tree. Gills are yellowish pale, working on spore print.

…I gave up on the print, put on my shoes and grabbed these other two. I washed off the caps and my my do they smell fantastic. Thanks for the help.

the gill color is enough. it’s an Agaricus.

Debbie, I tried, but the mushrooms were too immature to drop anything. I will try the large one again today, and if that doesn’t print I can hopefully collect the ones nearby that I left to mature. I’ve actually tried to print the larger one 3 times now. :)

that is the best way to get a mystery mushroom to genus, at least. If the gills are turning brown, then it can’t be Chlorophyllum, altho the way that the cap is breaking up into scales is certainly reminescent of the genus.

With browning gills and a sweet (dare I say almondy?) smell, Agaricus augustus is a good first guess.

Gills seem to be darkening to brown, but unsure. I’m beginning to think that this may be in the Lepiota group. Have you seen this mushroom before? :)
