X. separans? Doubtful!

I tend to side with Mycowalt — judging from the unique stipal ornamentation, this looks more like B. projectellus, which I have collected on numerous occasions in NJ Pine Barrens at this time of year. True, X. separans can either have a smooth stipe or some reticulation, but it is never that prominent and coarse and never runs down the entire length of stipe. You should have put a drop of NH4OH and that would have settled the matter.

Why X. separans?

That stipe looks like B. projectellus to me. http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/74478?obs=32093&q=2CJP
