Observation 54024: Leratiomyces ceres (Cooke & Massee) Spooner & Bridge
When: 2010-09-28
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing solitary on buried wood in mixed conifer forest.

Of some 25 species collected yesterday along the Wild Hawthorn Trail, this is the only one photographed on account of encountering difficulties in obtaining an ID and how striking it was in the field. My best guess is a Psathyrella of some sort, similar to http://mushroomobserver.org/47429 at least in the ornamentation of veil remnants, but MoPNW leads me elsewhere, namely Stropharia aurantiaca/Leratiomyces ceres, but pictures there show a much heftier and umbonate mushroom than these and a preference lawns and woodchips. Then again, observations here being called L. ceres (http://mushroomobserver.org/46109) look relatively similar to my own. I have included both genera as possible matches.
